In recent times, live music has become a significant aspect of Bengaluru's artistic scene. Carlton Braganza, a versatile figure involved in various creative fields, has been at the forefront of this movement. He has introduced innovative approaches to engaging audiences, such as launching the online music series, Jukebox Jammies, during the lockdown period caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In a conversation with Bangalore Times, Carlton discusses the changing music landscape in the city and areas for improvement. He notes that while online content is flourishing, there is a lack of suitable venues and interest for live music performances. According to Carlton, the shift in trends is largely due to financial reasons, with live music not generating substantial revenue compared to more commercial offerings. Carlton emphasizes the need for cultivating an audience that is receptive to diverse musical styles to foster the growth of the music scene.Live music venues like Opus, The Humming Tree, and BFlat lack a distinct identity, according to Carlton. He notes that the band culture is in decline as people tend to move on quickly. While there are acts like K-pop groups, there hasn't been a significant emergence of new bands in the past decade. Carlton believes that fostering new musical styles is crucial and advocates for unconventional performance spaces such as old churches, theaters, and local parks rather than sticking to traditional formats.

Regarding the use of AI in music, Carlton sees it as a gimmick that can potentially enhance creativity. He acknowledges the challenges posed by mediocre musicians relying on such tools but emphasizes the benefits it can offer in terms of inspiration.

Carlton, known for his involvement in the renowned Opus KroaKnights in Bengaluru, has revamped the singing contest into KroaKING, held at the Kempegowda International Airport. He reminisces about the legendary status of KroaKnights and the talent it showcased. The event, now organized at the airport, aims to bring back the nostalgia of old Bengaluru and could potentially become a regular or periodic occurrence."It’s fantastic because we are reintroducing a taste of traditional Bengaluru. Many former winners and finalists from our previous events have established themselves in the industry for over a decade. I have brought them back to serve as judges and mentors," he explains. Speaking about the upcoming Coldplay concert, Carlton shares, "I experienced their performance at the Stade de France. They put on an amazing show, but their music is tailored to a wide audience. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of their music."
